Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Snowy is a ski and snowboard tracking app. Because tracking your runs requires knowing where you are, location is central to how Snowy works, and we treat it accordingly. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, why, and what control you have over it.

By using Snowy, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Location Information

Location is the most sensitive information Snowy handles, so this section is the most detailed.

2.1. While You Are Recording

When you start a session, Snowy collects precise GPS location, elevation, speed, and timestamps in order to detect your runs and calculate vertical, distance, top speed, and time on snow. This continues in the background while a session is active so tracking does not stop when your phone is in your pocket or your screen is off.

2.2. Finding Resorts Near You

Snowy may use your location to show nearby resorts and current conditions where you are. You can use the resort map without granting location access, though nearby results will not be personalized.

2.3. Sharing Your Location With Friends

Live location sharing is optional and off unless you turn it on. When it is enabled, friends you have accepted may see your approximate position on the mountain map while you are riding. You can turn live location sharing off at any time in Settings, which stops sharing your position with other users.

2.4. Permissions and Control

Location access is requested through your device's permission system and can be changed or revoked at any time in your device settings. Revoking location access will stop run tracking from working, since there is no way to record a run without it.

2.5. Routes You Save

The route recorded during a session is stored with that run so you can view and replay it later. Deleting a run removes its route.

Snowy stores the activity records produced by your sessions, including runs, laps, vertical, distance, speed, elevation, duration, difficulty, resort, and season totals. Depending on the features you enable and the devices you use, sessions may also include heart rate and estimated calories.

If you turn on saving to Apple Health, workouts are written to Apple Health on your device under the permissions you grant. Health information handled through Apple Health is governed by Apple's frameworks and your device-level permissions, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. Account Information

You can use Snowy as a guest or create an account by signing in with Apple or Google. Sign-in is handled through a third-party authentication provider, which supplies an account identifier and, depending on the method you choose, your email address and basic profile details such as name and profile image.

Snowy also stores the profile information you set in the app, including display name, handle, home mountain, and avatar image. If you sign in with a provider that supplies a profile photo, that image may be used as your default avatar until you upload your own.

5. Social Features

If you use the social features, Snowy stores the information needed to make them work:

  • Friend relationships, friend requests, and blocked accounts
  • Crews you create or join
  • Messages you send to other users
  • Activity posts, likes, and comments
  • Presence information showing that you are riding, when you have enabled sharing
  • Public season statistics shown on leaderboards and friend comparisons

Information you share socially is visible to the people you share it with. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted, and you should not use them for confidential information.

6. Photos and Uploaded Images

If you upload an avatar or attach images, those files are stored so they can be displayed in the app. Photo library or camera access is requested only when you use a feature that needs it.

7. Purchases

Snowy Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription. Billing and payment processing are handled by Apple through the App Store, and entitlement status is managed through a third-party subscription management service. We never receive or store your payment card details. We receive only whether your subscription is active, along with a limited account identifier used to keep your purchase attached to the right account.

8. Notifications

If you enable push notifications, Snowy uses a third-party push notification service to deliver alerts such as friend requests, crew activity, and messages. This requires a device notification token. You can turn notifications off at any time in the app or in your device settings.

Snowy may also display a Live Activity on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island while a session is recording. Live Activities show your in-progress session on your own device.

9. Offline Maps

Offline map areas you download are stored on your device so they can be viewed without a connection. Deleting a saved area removes it from your device.

10. Diagnostics and Service Data

We may collect limited technical information needed to operate and troubleshoot the app, such as app version, device model, operating system version, and error reports. Weather and resort conditions are retrieved from a third-party weather data provider based on the resort or area being displayed.

11. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your location or run data with advertisers or data brokers.

Information may be shared only in these limited cases:

  • With other users, when you choose to share it through friends, crews, messages, activity posts, or live location
  • With service providers who host our infrastructure, authenticate sign-ins, deliver notifications, provide weather data, or process purchases, acting on our behalf
  • With Apple, when you use platform services such as purchases, maps, notifications, or Apple Health
  • When required by law, or when necessary to protect our rights, our users, or public safety

12. Your Controls and Rights

You have direct control over your data inside the app:

  • Location sharing: turn live location sharing on or off in Settings
  • Notifications: enable or disable push notifications and specific alert types
  • Export runs: export individual runs as GPX files
  • Export account data: export the data associated with your account
  • Delete runs: delete any run, which removes it from your logbook, stats, and sync
  • Block users: block accounts you do not want to interact with

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at info+snowy@agiapplications.org.

13. Data Retention and Deletion

Your runs, season records, and profile information are retained while your account is active so your logbook and season history remain available. Deleting a run removes it. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete the personal information associated with it, except where we are required to retain records by law.

14. Children's Privacy

Snowy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

15. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, where data protection laws may differ. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product, legal, or operational changes. The latest version will always be posted on this page, and material changes may also be communicated in the app.
