Welcome to Notebook LM. Protecting your data is central to how we design and operate the product. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it.

Information We Collect

Data you provide

• Account data such as your name, email address, and authentication metadata managed by Firebase.
• Notebook content including sources you upload (documents, links, notes, audio) and messages you exchange with the AI.
• Support requests and feedback you submit through in-app dialogs or email.

Data we collect automatically

• Usage metrics (e.g., token counts, feature interactions) to enforce plan limits and improve reliability.
• Device and app metadata like operating system, app version, and locale to troubleshoot issues.
• Diagnostic logs generated by the backend (including Sentry error traces) to identify bugs and performance bottlenecks. These logs may include pseudonymous identifiers but never your notebook content.

How We Use Information

• Deliver Notebook LM features. We process notebook data to ground AI responses, generate summaries, and maintain version history.
• Maintain security and reliability. Rate limiting, abuse detection, and automated monitoring keep the system safe for all users.
• Improve the product. Aggregated, de‑identified analytics inform roadmap decisions and model quality improvements.
• Provide support. When you contact support, we reference relevant account metadata to resolve the issue quickly.

We do not sell personal data or use your notebook content to train third-party foundation models.

Data Sharing

We share data only with service providers who help us operate Notebook LM (for example, authentication vendors, billing systems, and hosted search/retrieval infrastructure). Each provider is bound by contractual obligations to protect your information. We respond to lawful requests from regulators only when required and after verifying the scope.

Data Retention

• Notebook sources and chats persist until you delete them or request account deletion.
• Support logs and diagnostics are retained for a limited period (typically 30–90 days) before being purged or anonymized.

Your Choices

• Export or delete notebooks. Use in-app controls to remove sources, chats, or entire notebooks.
• Delete your account. The settings panel includes a “Delete my data” action that wipes notebooks, chats, and analytics records.
• Manage communications. Opt in or out of product updates via email.

Security

Notebook LM uses TLS encryption in transit, encrypted storage for notebooks, and strict access controls for operational staff. We regularly review our practices against industry security benchmarks.
