Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-04-07

1. Introduction

Welcome to Afterlife. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Afterlife application and related features (the "Service"). By installing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Afterlife is a private life vault for storing passwords, secure notes, links, files, journal entries, recurring bills, check-ins, trusted contact instructions, and related emergency planning records. The Service may also support password import, encrypted file storage, cross-device sync, and secure sharing workflows that you configure.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum legal age in your jurisdiction, to use the Service.

4. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your device, unlock methods, and recovery access secure
  • Ensuring the information you store or import is accurate and lawfully obtained
  • Maintaining current trusted contact information and emergency planning settings
  • Reviewing your check-in schedule, deadlines, and reminder settings
  • Using the Service only for lawful purposes

You may not use the Service to violate the rights of others, store unlawful material, interfere with the Service, or attempt to bypass licensing, purchase, or security restrictions.

5. Emergency Planning and Check-Ins

Afterlife can send scheduled check-ins and follow-up reminders based on the settings you configure. If you continue to miss check-ins and do not respond before the configured deadline, the Service may share the information you selected with the trusted contacts you assigned.

You are responsible for deciding what information is eligible for release, who your trusted contacts are, and whether your settings remain appropriate over time.

Afterlife is not an emergency dispatch service, medical alert system, insurance product, estate administration service, law firm, or substitute for professional legal or financial planning. We do not guarantee that check-ins, reminders, notifications, or emergency shares will always be delivered on time or at all.

6. Imports, Sync, and Third-Party Platforms

The Service may allow importing information from third-party formats such as KeePass or browser CSV exports. You are responsible for reviewing imported data for accuracy and completeness.

The Service may also rely on Apple device features and account-based services for biometrics, notifications, purchases, storage, or cross-device sync. Your use of those third-party services is governed by their own terms, privacy policies, and availability.

7. Purchases and Afterlife Pro

Some features may require a paid upgrade, including Afterlife Pro. If you purchase through the App Store, billing, renewals, refunds, and Family Sharing eligibility are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. We do not store your payment card information.

We may change, improve, or discontinue paid or free features at any time, subject to applicable law.

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how information is handled in Afterlife and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee that encryption, imports, sync, reminders, check-ins, attachments, file previews, trusted contact delivery, or any other feature will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every use case.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, BUSINESS, GOODWILL, OR PERSONAL OPPORTUNITY ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to paid or licensed features if you violate these Terms or misuse the Service. You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling it and discontinuing use.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
